Fergus Falls, MN – Stanton Avenue Improvements Project
CHALLENGE
The City of Fergus Falls was looking to reconstruct 3 blocks of Stanton Avenue that consisted of deteriorated asphalt pavement, non-compliant sidewalks, drainage issues, and outdated water, sanitary sewer, and storm sewer infrastructure. The project was located in a mixed-use area consisting of both commercial and residential uses. The project needed to be designed and phased to limit the disruption to businesses and residents throughout the construction process.
SOLUTION
The project was designed to replace the aging infrastructure and pavement with new water, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, and a robust asphalt pavement section that could accommodate the expected traffic associated with the mixed-use area. Sidewalks were installed to meet the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements. The project was phased to accommodate the businesses and residents throughout construction to limit negative impacts. The project plans and specifications were designed to meet MnDOT requirements for State-Aid for local transportation funding.
OUTCOME
The project was substantially completed in the Fall of 2024. Business and resident impacts were mitigated through thoughtful project phasing. Total project costs were within the expected budget of the project and completion dates were met by the contractor with regards to the schedule. The final project will provide this area of the community with new infrastructure that will provide reliable access to the residents and businesses along with upgraded water and sanitary sewer infrastructure for decades to follow.
